Colorado has four national parks, five national monuments and 41 state parks so there's plenty of outdoor recreation available.  I'll never forget our "big" vacation to Pike's Peak when I was 8.  We visited Carlsbad Caverns and the Cliff Dwellings on the way and then stopped at Garden of the Gods before finally reaching Pike's Peak.  It was the first time I saw snow and even though it was old, crusty, hard ice, not a soft powder, I was suitable impressed, being a child at the time.

Denver, the "Mile High City",is the capital of Colorado.    Denver is one of the few cities in history that was not built on a road, railroad, lake, navigable river or body of water when it was founded.  It sprang up where the first few flakes of gold were found in 1858.

Colorado Springs is one of the healthiest cities in America and a dog-lover's dream, with its 6 dog parks.  Like to ride your bicycle?  Colorado Springs has 70 miles of on-street bike lanes, 118 miles of urban bicycle trails and 61 miles of un-paved mountain bike trails.    Fittingly (pun intended), the city is the home of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
